2 Day climbing trip in the Peaks
The Peak District is a world famous site amongst climbers and, with its well-known and highly recognisable crags like Stanage Edge, Burbage and Frogatt – has been the mecca of British climbing for many years.
The climbing is on gritstone which, due to its frictional properties, results in superb climbs and plenty of grip – making it easy to see why people value the rock climbing here so much. With a variety of climbing grades, there’s something for everyone and we are sure that you will take some time to take in the amazing views of the rugged landscape that the Peak District provides.
Our instructors will take you to the best crags and you’ll climb some simply stunning routes. We’ll set up all the ropes for you so you can concentrate on the climbing.
Although this isn’t a structured course, our instructors will be able to give advice and climbing tips every step of the way.
About the Peak District
The Peak District became the first National Park in the UK in 1951. It is one of the most visited parks as it has close proximity to Sheffield, Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent and Derby. Much of the UK’s climbing and mountaineering history can be found in the Peak District because of its famous gritstone crags, burbage, forgatt and the world famous stanage edge.
Rock Type
The Peaks are home to two very different types of rock known as Dark Peak and Light Peak.
The Dark Peaks are made of Gritstone with its rounded edges, natural horizontal breaks and exceptional friction.
The Light Peaks (sometimes known as Low Peak) are made of Limestone which typically has smaller, sharper edged holds and the crags generally have steeper faces.
